What was actually wrong

A site-wide canonical hijack was pointing affected pages at a completely unrelated third-party domain — every page silently handing its ranking authority away. On top of that: a www/HTTP homepage split diluting signals, an unclaimed Google Business Profile, a sitemap last submitted in October 2024, and zero meta descriptions, canonical tags, or schema anywhere on the site. Mobile PageSpeed 33/100 with a 16.3-second largest contentful paint.

The find that mattered most: the site was holding map pack position 1 for stair runner queries while that page had a truncated title tag, body copy pasted from a different service, no meta description, and no schema. Ranking #1 on a broken page — meaning the ceiling was far higher than the current numbers suggested.
